I hear it's based on a very good Korean film from 2000 called "Il Mare".

I saw "Il Mare" (own it on DVD). Nice movie but wasn't really my type. Remakes of movies that don't need to be remade are dumb.

Like The Ring? or Psycho? Or, for that matter, Star Wars? What others are there...

...Though I didn't mind Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I'm so glad they remade RINGU. I almost fell asleep watching the Japanese original. I thinke THE RING is definitely a superior film and more frightening.

As for THE LAKE HOUSE, I actually went to see that with my s/o and the movie wasn't bad. I enjoyed it. Just throw all logic out the window while watching.

The way it was explained to me, the Star Wars remake was done by a special-effects guy who had little previous experience in directing actors and storytelling. (He later went on to do the widely panned Star Wars Prequel trilogy.)

Man, what I wouldn't have given to have George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars itself, do those!
