I caught a
John Mayer Trio show at the Kool Haus here in Toronto, last wednesday. One of my friends is a pretty rabid John Mayer fan - as quite a few of them are - and begged for me to come with her and a few people. All I'm saying is, had I known about the group previously, no begging would have been in ANY WAY necessary.
There's actually a huge difference between the John Mayer Trio - who's album
Try! is coming out on November 22nd, and John Mayer himself, who's acoustic album
Continum (sp?) is coming out sometime. The main difference? John Mayer is normally an acoustic poppy cutre-boy. JM3 rocks the
hell out! They start off as blues, and span more rock style, and a kind of R&B in the real sense of the word - blues, with an amazing funky beat behind it. They play covers from Ray Charles to D'Angelo, as well as plenty of new stuff, and a few JM classics.
If they're coming near you, I highly urge you to check it out. You can hear one of his fans favorites on his
site, but really you have to check out a live concert. One is available for torrenting here, I
DEFINATELY suggest you hear this.
