Neil,
What soundtrack/album is that Badalamenti song from? Also, do you have the entire Devendra Banhart album? Is the rest as good as At the Hop?

I made a tape tonight. It didn't come out as well as I had hoped.

Side A:

Come As You Are - Nirvana
Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes
Longview - Green Day
Tread Water - De La Soul
When I'm 64 - The Beatles
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Jamming - Bob Marley and the Wailers
Daylight - Aesop Rock
Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
Are You Experienced - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Pocketknife - PJ Harvey
In the Cold, Cold Night - The White Stripes
Get Started - X-Cutioners (snippet to finish out the side of the tape)

Highlights from the chaotic B-side:

Proceed - The Roots
Hey! - MF Doom
Blue Flowers - Dr. Octogon

Subbacultcha - Pixies
Every State Line - Ani DiFranco
This Mess We're In - PJ Harvey and Thom Yorke

As usual, I ended up with a pile of songs that I couldn't fit into the product, which makes me a bit disappointed--I pretty much botched this one in a couple different ways.

Something interesting just happened on my MP3 player -- three songs with 'rain' in the title just played back to back while I was on shuffle. So I got the bright idea to whip up this list of 'rain'-titled songs off the top of my head when I should really be working, but oh well. The sequencing is probably all off, but still, it might actually make for a half decent mix CD.

The Beatles - Rain
Terribly Empty Pockets - Rainy Day Medley
Gene Kelly - Singin' in the Rain
Barry White - Walkin' in the Rain (With the One I Love)
The Everly Brothers - Crying in The Rain
Tina Turner - I Can't Stand The Rain
Led Zeppelin - The Rain Song
Jane Siberry - It Can't Rain All The Time
Phil Collins - I Wish it would Rain Down
Blind Melon - No Rain
Placebo - English Summer Rain
Bright Eyes and Britt Daniel - Spent on Rainy Days
Jesus and Mary Chain - Happy when it Rains
Garbage - Only Happy when it Rains
The Eurythmics - Here Comes the Rain Again
Prince - Purple Rain
Peter Gabriel - Red Rain
Madonna - Rain
Guns 'n' Roses - November Rain

My most recent random mix:

Feel This (This Here)-Elzhi of Slum Village
Corners-Common Feat. Kanye West
Collosal Insight-Roots Manuva
Nightriders (9th Wonder Remix)-Boot Camp Clik
Stay Away-Pete Rock, De La Soul, Rob-O
Fall In Love (Remix)-Slum Village
Electric Ladyland-David Ryan Harris
Listen-Darien Brockington
Guess Who Loves You More-Raheem Devaughn
Something To Say-Stevie Wonder
Daughters-John Mayer
Steppin Out-Joe Jackson
Delroy-DYCR (this wasn't actually supposed to be there, but somehow it ended up on the mix. Funny song, though.)

i think kean and neil have the same taste in music as i do.

we should start a mix exchange, or at least one mix shiping day!

plus i bet the cd covers would be pretty cool, hehe.

Sorry, I missed your questions before. The Badalamenti song is from "The Straight Story," and yeah I'd recommend Nino Rojo, there are a lot of good tracks on there. You can enjoyably listen to it straight through.

Hrm I changed that tracklist a lot...

hey, that's rad, kean! i used to have a RAIN mix tape. i would listen to it whenever it was rainin'. eventually songs crept in that didn't have the word in the title, but were evocative of the weather nonetheless.

here's a few more...

jimi hendrix: rainy day dream away
jill sobule: rainy day parade
billie myers: kiss the rain
travis: why does it always rain on me?

Volume 5 in my personal mix series. This one's a kind of chill tape.

Side A:

"DJ Premier in Deep Concentration" Gang Starr
"Biscuit" Portishead
"Word Play" X-Cutioners
"Something in the Way" Nirvana
"Silent Treatment" The Roots
"Bonita Applebum" A Tribe Called Quest
"Communication" DJ Revolution
"Lesson 6: The Lecture" Jurassic 5
"Rainy Day Women #12&35" Bob Dylan
"The Back Room" Van Morrison
"Break On Through" The Doors

The B-Side wins again:

"Within You, Without You" The Beatles
"Silver" Pixies
"Long Time Coming (Evening Session Version)" PJ Harvey
"Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" The White Stripes
"The Gloaming" Radiohead
"Rubin" The Everyones
"I Know I Know I Know" Tegan & Sara
"Steal My Sunshine" Len
"Nothing Better" The Postal Service
"Debaser" Pixies
"My Name is Jonas" Weezer
"Love or Confusion" The Jimi Hendrix Experience
"Well Its True That We Love One Another" The White Stripes (with Holly Golightly)
"Alphabet Aerobics" Blackalicious (with Cut Chemist)

The B-side mix fit onto the tape absolutely perfectly...nothing was cut off the end (which is vital for the last song here). Serendipitous fun.

Blarg. Waiting for my files to finish uploading to the work server, so I've got some time to kill. Here's my "First Two Months Mix," based off my Winamp stats for the first two months of this new calendar year (obviously doesn't include some of the CDs I've been wearing a hole in lately, but oh well). Made some minor edits to remove duplicate artists, and I came up with this:

Basement Jaxx - Oh My Gosh
M.I.A. - 10$
Primal Scream - Swastika Eyes
New Order - Krafty [MP3]
13+God - Men of Station
Bright Eyes - Easy/Lucky/Free
The Postal Service - Be Still My Heart [MP3]
Beck - Summer Girl (unmastered demo) [MP3]
Arcade Fire - Intervention (live on KCRW)
Wolf Parade - Shine A Light (CBC Radio 3 Session) [MP3]
Archer Prewitt - Way of the Sun
Final Fantasy - This is the Dream of Win and Regine
Crooked Fingers - Call to Love
Rilo Kiley - Portions for Foxes [MP3]
Neko Case - Favorite
The Decemberists - Engine Driver
Iron & Wine - The Trapeze Swinger [MP3]
Wilco - Just a Kid
Spoon - They Never Got You [MP3]
British Sea Power - Please Stand Up [MP3]

[edit]: threw in some of the MP3s for good measure. As I'm hosting these (and illegally, I might add), please try not to kill my bandwidth too quickly, okay? Thanks muchly.
