Hey lollos,
Since kazu mentioned it, i think about starting a topic. Unfortunally i can´t be impartial in this one.

Lilo and stitch catch me. It happened to be the perfect because it is a mixture of the things that i like most.
Sun.surf.rock.family.acting.animation.

The art is simply sweet and original. Chris sanders is a amazing talented guy.and so is dean deblois. i´ve been a fan since mulan. But in this film i felt lilo also as cute as peanuts.I think the characters designs are all very mature- i always wanted to see a animated film with sanders style.
I´ve also kept me wondering of how could they made that backgrounds in watercolour.

But what i enjoyed most is how subtle the film is. the acting, their relations, and even the animation. It´s very hard to watch a film that i like all the characters. In this special case i like each of them. i also like the fact it has no villain.

I think about this film everytime. It sincerely makes me happy. i remember of seeing it when i was losing my heart for animation. It was great to cheer again.

Mulan has a place in my heart. (douglas:it has very sweet designs- and the layouts are amazing too
it made me want to go into animation. lilo and stich made me stay- even if not exactely with it- but it makes me keep drawing

and that´s why it is my favorite.

p.s. you now may think that i am a 100% disney fan, that´s not entirely true, disney has many issues that i disagree. still can´t talk of animation without talk about disney. but thats another topic for other day.

I LOVE this film!! You know you have something great when it gets better on repeat viewings, and Lilo and Stitch gets better and better everytime I watch it. These characters, they are just so wonderful and fun, I want to live in their world! It's no surprise to read about how DeBlois and Sanders were very influenced by Miyazaki, since I get the same great feeling from this film that I get when watching Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, and Porco Rosso (okay, so I after all the Miyazaki references, you can all probably tell I am a Miyazaki nut).

While it is light on story, the characters and the emotions are very real and affecting. The humor is also really great. I always find myself laughing out loud when I watch it. I give Lilo and Stitch my highest possible recommendation.

I need to learn to start watching movies earlier in the evening so that I am able to stay awake to see the ending! Curse me! I've fallen asleep on this movie twice, despite the fact that I loved what I was awake for. This movie is very high on my list of things to watch (again).

i really adore all of his films that i watched- mononoke, chihiro and porco rosso.He has a great power to creat imaginery words... i will seek for the rest...

Lilo and Stitch was animated down here at the Orlando studio (which unfortunately closed it's doors TODAY, coincidentally and unfortunately).

It was created under budget and finished before schedule.

I consider the look of L&S lightyears beyond some of the other more recent Disney films.
Had more heart than most Disney films in TEN years.

I'd heard that the artists here were tasked with pulling out a ton of artwork to be included in a big two-disc DVD to rival the level of production materials found in the Pixar DVDs.
Then they pulled the plug on the big DVD and went cheap.

I still hear rumors of a two-disc coming out this year. I hope it's true!

I'd always hoped I would eventually be able to jump over to the local Disney studio, and was especially impressed that the Orlando outfit almost always flew under corporate radar and made "different" Disney films...

Lilo and Stitch saved 2D for me. I was beginning to think 2D was being put out to die by bigshots at Disney who are being beaten by Pixar's 3D, not knowing or noticing it isn't the art just the ideas that are making them better. But anyhow, Lilo and Stitch made me believe that 2D was saved by such an obvious showing of it's importance and if done right, pure excellence. As for Miyazaki, well he's a master unrivaled by most and his imagination is only beaten by his desire and deep love to deliver such wonderful worlds to us viewers and fans. I just wanted to add before I go on that Spirited Away mad me tear while watching it in the theater, because it's just animated heaven on film (as far as I'm concerned). Oh and Joel, I'm down here in South Beach (FL) and I felt the effect of Disney's despicable move against that studio. I went up there during Lilo's beginnings and I watched the artists at work through the (what I call) "Caged Artists Glass" hoping for the best on that project and getting it. Disney is so uncool right now. I for one am for Roy Disney's request that Eisner step down and resign from his control of Disney. It has been stated before and now by Roy Disney that Eisner clumsily fired former studio chief Jeffrey Katzenberg and with the severe decline in ABC's ratings.

Disney's letter blames Eisner for a loss of morale at the company and for causing a perception that "the Company is rapacious, soulless, and always looking for the 'quick buck' rather than the long-term value which is leading to a loss of public trust."

He also blasts Eisner for the failure to maintain constructive relationships with business partners, including Pixar Animation Studios, which co-produces computer-animated films with Disney, including the record-breaking "Finding Nemo."

I'm for Roy keeping the family name intact and keeping its true values as they were meant to be and could continue to be. Money will come if you stay faithful to the ideals the fans and people respect and expect. People like Ovitz and Eisner think about dollars caring less if the Disney names loses its gold, future earnings, and fan loyalty, because they don't have emotional stack involved.

So in closing, as an artist I feel staying true to an idea you believe to be great is better then taking the quick buck and letting the idea be raped by people who don't care about your idea. If an idea is good money will come regardless of how long the wait is.

Ah, I concur--Lilo & Stitch is a four-star movie. I was watching this in a store one on of those fantastic Macintosh Cinema Displays, and it was so astounding to watch these characters moving around on what seemed to be real watercolor paintings. Just beautiful stuff... Lilo's collection of fat people photographs made me laugh so much that I almost squirted soda out my nose.

Lilo is what it's about... Fun!

Lilo and Stitch is fantastic. I saw it at an industry premier as i was doing a lot of toy design at the time...and we were working on the toy series for Mcdonalds etc.
Totally blew me away...how GOOD this movie was. Just such wonderful characters...a heartfelt simple little story...and boy...those backgrounds. Stunning.
I watched the DVD again a while ago...yeah...it gets better every viewing. Just an incredibly sad little story. It could quite easily have fallen into schmaltz and been a disaster...but i think the irreverence of the characters, the cheeky comedy and the fact that Stitch wasn't a particularly nice guy made it work a treat.

I think i might watch it again tonight.

There is a straight to video Stitch movie...but like most Disney rushed out straight to video sequels...i don't think it's got anything on the original.

I love Chris Sanders style, the whole bag filled with water. Even the most harsh of envirments were happy and cheerful with those water color and rounded edges. The stroy was down to earth and it was convoluted with fairy princesses and magic castles. The fact Lilo was "odd" was perefect. I still laugh out loud at the part she explains how pudge the fish controls the weather and how she bites the snob in the Hoolah class. Every scene can make you laugh and cry. Pure cinemtic excellence. Too bad it probably be as popular as it should be...

I agree it was pure childlike fun. That's what makes the story work, straight forward love for this medium. Pure FUN. The art is fantastic, so I don't need to gomon about that.

There is also a disney studio in australia. This studio is in charge of the features sequels. They made lion king 2, little mermeid 2, 101 dalmatians 2, mogli 2, and the most recent was peter pan 2 which was released in the theatres. They are probabily doing lilo and stitch 2, i guess.

I kinda don't like the sequels. less time, more executives, less love.

But with the florida studio closing doors will be the only studio working for disney now, i guess. They can shut down this one eighter. what's wrong with this people anyway?

anyway there is also pixars rumors...

kazu, i didnt know about this new studio. i guess i suspected that all of them would become 3d

disney has a habit of pulling a movie from dvd sales and rereleasing it at a later date.. is lilo and stich still available for sale in stores?


and i was also wondering... is the Iron Giant still available for sale on dvd?
