Interesting. Verrry interesting. The top 40 bands in America, as ranked by them online music writin' -types. I'm more than a little surprised that Ted Leo made #1, though. Who'da thunk it?

(also, don't forget to check out some of the MP3s available throughout the post -- Ted Leo's cover of one of my favourite Lauryn Hill songs, "Ex-Factor," is pretty awesome).

[edit]: I do have to agree with one of the comments further down in the post, though. It's awfully indie-centric. The two hip hop acts on that list seem to be on there simply for the reason of "we like things other than just indie rock."

yeah. and the three hip-hop acts lean more to the mainstream than to the indie/underground side of hip-hop. (not saying their bad artists, but I just find it funny that with all those indie rock bands, the three hip-hop acts are some of the most popular.)

Heh. I had a feeling you might have something to say about that, Ant. :)

You'd think that at least Madvillain would get a mention on that list. I know I'm not the biggest follower of hip hop, but man, their record knocked me flat on my ass.

As I mentioned in my first post, the list is awfully indie-centric, and I feel it doesn't really reflect "the best 40 bands in America." Eminem and Jay-Z aren't exactly indie rock either, it's just that the list is mostly made up of indie acts.

The "indie" qualifier is my own, not theirs.
