Any Trail fans here? They're at the sweet spot somewhere between Sonic Youth and the Who. Their last LP ("Source Tags & Codes") may be the best-produced rock album I've ever heard.

Yeah, Source Codes & Tags was one of the best rock albums I've heard in recent memory. Definitely an acquired taste though, much to the chagrin of some of my friends.

Personally, I think their name is a little too pretentious for my liking.

Hhehe, my friend loaded this onto my mp3 player and I didn't listen to it for a long time, just because of the name. But I confess, I like it.

i myself wouldn't say pretentious. that word is bandied around too often these days too describe any band that puts any effort into coming up with something different. just my humble opinion

It's only pretentious if you take it too seriously. I doubt the guys in the band do.

I saw them at a festival here a few years back (might have been 2002 - Livid in Sydney).

They're sprinkled with awesomeness.

I love the way they change lineup after most songs - drummer plays guitar, guitarist drums, etc.

I haven't listened to much besides source tags and codes, I still can't get enough of 'another morning stoner' I fuckin love that song.

great line up that year.
did you by any chance see Mercury Rev.
perfect when bats came out of trees in back during their set as sun was going down. one of many highlights of that day for me.

I didn't see mercury rev, I'm really not a fan... I think at that time I was off seeing some really dodgey punk band.

My highlight was the trail guys throwing part of the drum kit into the crowd... Wait, I take that back. The Morning - they opened the big top and were brilliant.

Yeah, it is a damn amazing record. The production is excellent. Very layered, and I love the lush instrumentation and the interludes and stuff.

I saw them live opening for Queens of the Stone Age once. I heard that their live show was insane, but I didn't like it. They sound a lot more polished in the studio. They had hell of energy, though. It was pretty intense, but they didn't sound so great.
