Aww man, this is both sad and adorable.
I really love it, your style is very fun with it's nice clean lines and the "just right" realism level. The pages all have a great flow to them imo, well-done panel compositions and good, clever writing ("They never made me feel alone" made me laugh). Can't wait to see the colours!

Haha, in the "Zoom" panel it almost looks like the bird is trying to catch the ball... XD
Another great set of pages... The way the price for our protagonist is lowered the older he gets, the detail of the Old Yeller book on the backseat, the panel with the kid and Max walking away from the store... Love all these. The fetching sequences are really well done too, there's a real sense of motion prevalent. Reminds me of when my dog still used to play fetch. Good times. *sniff*

Simply and eloquently told, man. You're doing a great job at tugging at the ol' heartstrings. Color will add a lot, although they read great now.

The shelter we adopted our dachshund from rescued her from a puppy farm, so that part was particularly interesting to see in your story.

I can see this being very popular. So accessible!
