I only read 2 chapters of this book before I had to give it back to its owner, but it seemed really good to me (if you don't want to take the Pulitzer's word for it). I'm looking forward to it.

Wow, this does look good. Very good. I'll put that high on my list of films to see...

I think the thing about this trailer that intrigues me the most is the father. He's telling his son his love for his family and the history behind it, he's sad because his son doesnt understand how deep that runs. Being a father myself I can relate a bit. I love my wife and kids and it does grow every day.

It's the second half of the trailer that really grabs me.

I agree about this trailer. I saw it yesterday and it kinda choked me up.

Anybody watch the film yet? I LOVED IT. The movie perfectly conveys the feeling of being the child of a southeast asian immigrant. It explores the generational (word?) and cultural gap that often exists in such a relationship, and does so with beautiful imagery and really great acting. It's not your average indie-asian drama where the guy treats his new wife like crap or where the focus is on the specific anthropology of the given culture; instead it explores really universal themes that just about anyone could identify with. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.

Man, I missed it. But I will rent the movie one of these days. I tend to refuse to see most movies based on books because I want to read them first. I missed Gone, Baby Gone because it took me so long to get to the novel. Same case for the Namesake. And I still haven't read the book. :-/ But the movie does look amazing. I like Kal Penn a lot more when he's doing serious roles.

I'll have to get over my stubbornness, so I won't end up missing the Kite Runner.

I completely agree with daveau82. I went to see it a couple of months ago. I really enjoyed it. It is a very moving film. I completely identified with the relationship between the father and the son.

I enjoyed it, but felt the movie wasn't without its flaws -- I think this is one of the few movies I've seen that really needed a longer running length, by a good hour or so. It felt like so many of the scenes weren't given enough room to breathe, and the movie really suffered from all the concepts that were being crammed into it (although individually, they are perfectly valid and excellent ones). The story is really ambitious, but I think they all just overreached -- Jhumpa Lahiri too -- and fell short of making something really special.

And while the family was pretty much perfectly cast (Irfan Khan stole just about every scene that he's in), I just found Gogol's first girlfriend to be terribly one-dimensional and, unfortunately, stereotypical.
