I really am failing to see what's so great about these guys. Can someone give me an in depth review or point me to one that distills down what they do that's so special?

Been listening to the mp3's. I do like them a lot, so I'll buy the album for sure. They've certainly got a lot of energy. It'll certainly help me draw more DK pages. :D

Gah - I think I'm downloading the wrong MP3s - I got a few to check them out, and they're all very soft and slow. Wake Up sounds good though - thanks Kean, I was about to send them to the "less energy" bin :S

I'm seeing them play in January which should be fun! I've really been enjoying their album.

If you don't like them, then you don't like them. I'm not really sure how reading a review about them will influence your decision. That being said, you can always read Bitchfork's review where they gush and gush over the album.

For me, it's the cohesiveness of the album as a whole that makes it as good as it is. The individual songs, taken on their own, might not grab you immediately, but when listening to the entire record in sequence, there is an intensity underlying the songs that really make you sit up and go... wow. The songs just keep building and building in intensity until the final release in "Rebellion (Lies)".

Compared to New Order and U2? What a combo. Arcade Fire has indeed been getting some raves on the mainstream lately, not just in the "indie" scene. I'm sure they're the next "big thing" for the year 2005. Definitely worth checking out. Thanks for bringing this band up, Kean.

I am officially converted. I listened to the mp3's enough and bought it from iTunes. thanks for keeping me in the know.
By the way, has anyone heard of the Danielson Famile? Arcade Fire reminded me a bit of them.

I've listened to the album twice and I have to say it hasn't grabbed me yet. I think this is the first time I've dissented in opinions with a Kean choice ;) I don't know, I got Keane at the same time, and I have to say that sucked me in more immediately. I'm going to give the Arcade Fire a few more listens though, and several of the tunes I like--maybe overall it will blossom on me.

Got Funeral the other day. I've been though it a few times and it's really nice.

That's how I was. I thought "This is junk." Then I kept listening. Now I am listening. It's not something I'd normally be into, but it's beautiful nonetheless.
If you can, check out the song "No Cars Go" on iTunes.

Just in case anyone is interested, Rotate This! has a small stack of the Arcade Fire EPs from 2003 in stock. Haven't seen them for sale anywhere else, so if anyone wants a copy, let me know before they sell out (I imagine they're going to go pretty fast).

A track from the EP: "Headlights Look Like Diamonds"

The Arcade Fire has totally jumped to the top of my playlist. You were totally right about it being an album experience, Kean. I have two faves, but the whole thing demands replay. Great stuff. Grows on you fast.

Dean Trippe made me discover this thing and it's pretty awesome ! I love it and keep listening to for days. (I don't love all the songs but my favorites are Tunnel, Wake Up and Rebellion).

Thank you Dean, and thank you Kean !
