Yes, Keane. No relation to yours truly.

So aside from the (painfully) obvious reason why I like them, these guys have been causing quite a stir over in Britain lately. The interesting thing about them is the fact that they have no guitarist. Just keyboards, drums, and vocals, and yet they still have a very 'big' sound. I don't like making comparisons, but they sound very much like Coldplay without the sometimes annoying, riffless guitars.

You can even stream a live performance of them over at KCRW on Morning Becomes Eclectic.

you're a big fan of them?

i liked their 'somewhere only we know' after listening it a few times. very nice and clean song, i just don't like the vocalist's voice. no reason to dislike them though, it's cool they don't have guitars and still appear at MTV2. guess i'm a fan ^_^

I wouldn't say I'm a big fan of them, but yesterday I picked up their debut album anyway -- Hopes and Fears was selling for a measly 10 bucks, so I really couldn't say no...

I would list Coldplay as a guilty pleasure of mine, and Keane are no different. Really, nothing very innovative about either of these bands, but they do have some catchy pop hooks, so I ain't complainin'. :)

Well, I finally bought "Hopes and Fears" yesterday... seven months after this thread began. And man... what have I been missing out on? I love this cd! It's not breakthrough by any means, but it's right up my alley. I dig it far more than cold play... and it kinda gives me the same relaxing glee that "Travis" gives me.

Eight bucks for this great album. Can't beat it. They're being talked about a lot these days, it seems. Interesting also how it seems to get progressively more electronic the farther into the album you go.

Keane is great. It's nice to know that they don't have a guitarist. That is interesting.

Fans of Keane! Or specifically fans of Keane in Los Angeles! They're playing at the Avalon theater on September 11, 2004 at 8pm. That's a Saturday.

Tickets are only $17 a pop... but after fees it comes to like $25. That's still not bad! And if you've been the avalon, it's a tight venue. Go to www.cc.com to order tix. I'm there for sure!

I saw these boys live earlier this year and the singles aside, they didn't have a lot of (well, any) decent tunes. They were however exceptionally polite.
