I LOVE Zelda. It's one of the things that made me want to be an illustrator. I really think you captured the spirit of the game in this image. It makes me wish I still had the original NES.

I'm having difficulty figuring out Link's pose right here though--it feels like it's in between starting an action and finishing it.

Have you seen "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way"? there's a great page in there about action breakdowns and what tends to be the most "dynamic" aspect of a motion. The drawing is of a guy winding up for a punch, the swing and the follow-through and everything in-between. Looking at this image (which is good in so many ways already), I feel like he's stuck in the middle, less-dynamic part of the movement.

It could be way cooler if he was reacting more to whatever is going on outside the frame.

keep up the good work.

coffee- thanks, dude!

frank- i love zelda too! it's my favorite video game franchise ever! and right now it's killing me that i don't have a wii so i can play my twilight princess game that i bought months ago....

anyhoo, yeah this is more of a posing for the picture kind of shot- just to figure out how i would draw him. you know when you're playing a video game and your character's all ready to jump into action but you just aren't moving him anywhere. uh.. that's what he's doing. he's getting ready for action! but yeah- a dynamic action shot would be better. next time!

that marvel book used to be my drawing bible when i was a kid but i haven't looked at it in years. maybe i'll give it a look-through again.

and thanks!

It's always great to see Link. I like how you worked the Triforce into the picture. And good job on making the sword look metallic... that can be tricky.

YES! Link rules. Moody dungeon lighting... I can hear the dungeon music now. (nes of course) The triforce reflected lighting is a great touch.

I'm playing Twilight Princess on my Gamecube. It took me two hour to get the stupid fishing pool. Hopefully I figure out the other puzzles faster.

I never understood why it was called zelda if the main character's name was link.

Awww he's so adorable! He's like: "Go Sword go!!"

I played a lot on the Snes when I was young, and since I didnt' understand english at all at that time, it was a real shock years later when I learned his actual name was Link, and not Zelda >__< Which kind of made sens... Zelda didn't sound too manly.
