Here's the cover to a newspaper special here in Brasil about the Lord of the Rings. Artwork by my awesome brother, Gabriel Bá.

Those runes are fake or it's a language I know not how to spell

Nice cover though... Frodo is somewhat similar to the Frodo from the movie ^^

I was just praising chuck bb's Mignola influence, but this is a little too close, I think. Not that it's wrong, it's just less appealing because it invites the comparison too obviously--if it's supposed to be an article about Lord of the Rings, why is the art distracted by Hellboy? I'm sorry I'm being such a fly in the ointment again today :( It's just that I know that Gabriel has his own awesome style. 8)

This is BÁ speaking.

When I was watching all the references for this work, I started having a lot of images and compositions in my head, and they worked a lot better on the inside spread page art that I did first (which I'm showing here). I loved the possibility to blend different scenes, use the colors and work all the composition out, but I missed the "BLACKs". Because there was too much text going over the image, I had to make it very light.

When they turned the piece in the cover matter and offered the covered, I was very glad to be able to make a darker composition there.

I have a very strong Mignola influence, specially on the black/white usage and the inking, but all the elements on this work shouted HELLBOY to me. Strong characters, strange languages, nice symbols and dramatic lighting and shadow.

But I agree that, in the end, the cover turned out TOO MUCH MIGNOLA. I liked what I accomplished on the spread better. The cover turned out to be the easy path.

Yeah, that cover image really screams Mignola, but I really love what you did with the spread. It's gorgeous.

I see nothing wrong with influence. Especially by such a great master as Mike Mignola... I'm influenced by Mr. M quite significantly. :)
But I have to agree with Neil: you have your own great style (checked your website, so I know what I'm talking), and turnig back, or say: "side" to it was a waste. Ok, these are great pictures, (some people just don't do bad pictures ;)), but reference to Hellboy and Mr. M. is too strong.
