sideache! good to see you! I saw this when you posted the piece on "kids leaving their parents someday" on Doug's blog. Still fresh.

This kinda reminds me of the cover from An American Tail...
anyway...
You are far beyond my technical level...I really enjoy your rough rendering...But the volumes are really well felt...The colors are also very inteligent!

Great job!

Aww, that one's great, Cliff! One of my favorites from you. :D

You ought to try expanding the color palettes, though. The bold purple/gold combination shows up in a lot of your work. I think with a little tweaking, the image could be a home run. I gave it a try and applied a mustard-colored overlay layer at 50 percent opacity and tweaked the hue a bit. I think it gives the piece a very Saturday Evening Post Leyendecker/Rockwell feel to it:

Anyway, this is a great piece! Good to see you posting these! :D

Thanks Kazu, however this image is more about the story that I'm trying to convey then the technique I'm trying to employ. The warm that you added troughout the image conflicts with the mood that I'm trying to achieve.

I love this image just the way it is. The tone is perfect. It's really great when you see a single image that you can create a whole story around. Please turn it into a book.

Amazing work Cliff! I don't really have a great eye for color, so I can't decide which version I like better. Both are great!

Too bad, I thought it was a hell of a team-up. :( Kazu's changes make a really good image spectacular, I think.

I like it! It got a great depth and it make me want to read the story that is behind it. And the two versions of the picture tells two diffrent stories. The second one is more happy story than the fist one that looks more like running away.

But I like em alot! ;)

yeah, i kind of got what blom said. it's funny how just a slight variation in color can change not only the mood, but how we perceive the story as well. and speaking of story, i want to see how the journey continues! this is a really cool painting!
