Post by ChadTHX1138 » Fri Sep 30, 2005 12:41 am

I have been way too busy to post anything and all the work I have done since January I am not able to show because of legal reasons, uggh. so...here's a couple things I did in my sketchbooks recently.

Mucho fun :) I like the manic expression on the clowns face. The yellowed paper works really well for the insect sketches, makes it feel kinda oldy worldy.

....so, this might be interesting for you to know. you could make it as a scientific illustrator any day from the look of those insects. It might be something for you to look into....but then again i cant think of anyone other than myself who actually WANTS to be a scientific illustrator.

Those insect pictures are absolutely stunning. Really, chad, they're some of the best bug pics I've ever seen.

The thorn bug is awesome. Are these done with colour pencils? I'm trying to squint but I can't get a hold of the technique. Good job, my man!

thanks for the compliments everyone. The thorn bug actually exists! in fact there are so many different kinds of Thorn bugs.

I did these in pen and ink.

Then took french grey markers and put tones down first.

I then added watercolor. the top three were colored with DERWENT water color PENCILS and the Thorn bug was done with traditional watercolors, the kind you get as wafers on the tray.

Then I added highlights where needed with Pelikan graphic white.

I dont really have any intention of being a scientific artist, I did this mainly as something fun and different to practice, I have little practice in watercolor. There are so many cool and unusual bugs in the world that they look alien. Although I dont have any I am always eyeing the bugs that are in frames at the National Geographic store.

Love the excited inking of the clowns, but I feel like the insects are stunning. They make me think that you should do some kind of comic like Nausicaa because your bugs would look so good... anyway nice stuff.
