Sketch night hoboes

Post by Seth Wolfshorndl » Thu Feb 26, 2009 10:13 pm

Our sketch challenge this last weekend was inspired by the important historical work of John Hodgman (the PC guy in those Mac commercials). In his book, The Areas of My Expertise, Hodgman chronicles the legendary Hobo Wars of the Great Depression, which was of course when President Roosevelt declared war on hobos everywhere. You can hear Hodgman read this section in this video. Anyway, in the back of that book, he listed 800 hobo names. To say they are interesting is an understatement.

The following are our interpretations of what these folks may have looked like...

Drawing characters inspired by John Hodgman’s list of 800 hobo names was just too much fun to only do once. Here's some more from me and Matt.

I think Thundertwine there is definitely my best hobo drawing, and the idea of an “Alaska-phobe” was just too hilarious to pass up.

I love Thundertwine. That little ball of twine between those giant fingers is a great touch.
I keep a sketchblog here
