Some recent work:

Spot for Good Housekeeping. The article is about which
technological gadgets are appropriate for children as they grow up.


This is a small illustration for The Friend magazine.



For the "events" section of The Pitch. I really liked messing around with the halftone dots. I'm not sure which color scheme was actually printed.




Panels from a story for Nelson Education. The story is supposed to be totally over the top and this part covers much of the chaos.


For an article in Insight magazine about the dietary practices of 7th Day Adventists (Insight is an Adventist magazine for teens).

Noob question: how do you do the halftone dots?

I use photoshop and I get the halftone dots this way:

1. I crate a gradient in the shape I want on a separate layer.
2. I copy and paste that layer in a new file.
3. I convert the file mode to grayscale.
4. I then convert the file mode to bitmap.
5. The default is set to 50% threshold, but there are options. I choose the halftone option.
6. Once I have the halftone I convert it back to grayscale mode.
7. I then get rid of the white pixels using the method outlined here: http://scottefranson.blogspot.com/2007/ ... -line.html
8. I then copy and paste the halftone into the original file.
9. Locking the pixels on that layer makes it easy to color.

Does that make sense? I think I should have an online demo.

Doesn't "Nighttime" seem like it should only have one "T" in the middle? Anyway, here are the first two covers for a series of books by Todd Strasser. Each book contains short "spooky" stories meant for the age group a little under the "Goosebumps" group.

I really like those covers a lot. What a great skeleton character, I love how he's sitting on the porch. Nice color palettes too.

3rd Nighttime cover. This is as far as the series is going for now. I can't wait to see these in the bookstore. This is my favorite of the 3. Anyone think one of the others is better?


This is a spread for Insight Magazine. I don't get to read the articles so I'm not 100% sure what this one is about. But I do know that the gorilla is very pious.


I was recently asked to do a Madman commission. (If you are interested in a commission, I charge $50 for an original ink drawing.) I also colored this one for fun.
