I thunk up an idea for a story set in the land of Oz. I'll explain later.

ha - that's great.
I really like the ganglyness of the scarecrow, but the tin man creeps me out a little bit too much, not sure why. Maybe it's the skeletalness, or could just be the crosses for eyes, I kind of understand that as cartoon shorthand for being dead.
Is that like an aviators helmet thing Dorothy is wearing?
I think this could be a great re-imagining, as long as it doesn't go for the cheap children's-icon-being-violent gags, but from the feel of this, I don't think that's what you are shooting for.

this drawing is so freaking bad-ass! I wish you would pump the contrast on it so I can see the lines better!

Great energy! Nice personality! The scarecrow is nice and rubbery (I love that broken elbow) and the Tin Man feels really stiff. Sweet.

Thanks everybody! I'm trying to get a thread started over at The Drawing Board http://www.drawingboard.org/viewtopic.p ... 052#624052

Here's the initial idea behind the drawing:
What if the United States decided to confer statehood on the land of Oz? (remember the USA was building an empire in the first decade of the twentieth century.) Since Oz can only be reached from the air, perhaps the Wright brothers' newfangled flying machines would come in handy. But what if Oz resisted? Would the US try to reinstall the Wizard as a puppet dictator? Who could lead the peacable land of Oz against a modern, industrial war machine? What side would a 13-year-old Dorothy find herself on? Winged monkeys anyone?

Just for fun. I don't have a particular axe to grind. I'm thinking of something somewhere between 'Arzach' and 'Cheech Wizard'.

Nice drawing, and I love the story idea! That could be really cool! Though I do agree that the Tin Man's eyes are a little strange.

I love the Tin man in the first sketch, he's all chewed on :) His eyes are really neat!
The lion's eyes kind of bug me, I get that it's a style thing but I find mis-matched eyes stuck together very distracting and hard to read.
The scarecrow is indeed awesome, I'd just watch his foot placement in the top sketch as well: his front leg seems to be in front of the lion while the other leg is clearly behind.
