Hi,

I just want to present several books of some european Graphic Novel illustrators that I like very much. You will have to copy & paste some of the adresses here like Franquin, Yoann, Wendling

Italian author Sergio TOPPI : http://www.bdnet.com/Le%20Collectionneu ... _serie.htm

French author Régis LOISEL : http://www.regisloisel.com

Belgian author André FRANQUIN :
http://www.bdnet.com/*Integrale%20Idees ... _serie.htm

French or Belgian (I don't know) author René HAUSMAN : http://www.bdnet.com/Layna/fiche_serie.htm
http://www.bdnet.com/Le%20Prince%20des% ... _serie.htm

French author YOANN :
http://www.bdnet.com/Toto%20l'Ornithory ... _serie.htm

French author Claire WENDLING : http://www.bdnet.com/Les%20Lumieres%20d ... IE_REPpg=2

Excellent selection!

Toppi is a master inker! I discovered his books last year and was blown away by his B&W art.

Aah, Loisel...he lives in Montreal now you know? Haven't read his latest book yet.

Franquin: can't beat the classics! Gaston Lagaffe, Spirou, Idée Noire...

I don't really know Hausman. I'll take a peek at his stuff next time I go to a bookstore. Thanks for the recommendation.

Yoann! He did the latest Spirou book. His coloring on Toto is simply great.

Wendling: everyone must have her sketchbook. Go buy it now. Now!!

If you ever come to Montreal Neil, I'm bringing you in a book shopping tour ;)
You may not find all the cool books they have in Europe though, as some titles never cross the pond.
I need to do a shopping spree in France!

I forgot this one, I have no excuse, he is my best friend. You need to copy & paste here too.

Nofret, I go sometimes to Montreal, do you have some good adresses of Bandes-Dessinées stores to give me, that would be great.

In the downtown area, there is Marché Du Livre (they are actually right beside the bus terminal). Good selection: on the first floor, a small display of what's new that week, and the second floor is just graphic novels.
801, boulevard de Maisonneuve Est

Then there is Fichtre, near the Mont Royal subway station. Kinda small, but interesting variety.
436, rue de Bienville

Close by, there's also Millenium, a regular US comic book store, but with a nice section for small press.
451, rue Marie-Anne Est

In the same area, Débédé has also an interesting selection, mostly used books and a few book collectors hunting ground. If you're looking for older titles, your best bet is there.
3882, rue Saint-Denis

If you like sculptures and merchandise from french graphic novels, Lunivers & Cie has a nice selection
5250 St-Denis

Way up north, and a bit of a hassle to get to, is Librairie Monet. They are inside a strip mall, so there's no sign to be seen from outside.
2752, rue de Salaberry

Oh boy! I love european Graphic Novels. Unfortunately, there aren't too many places to get 'em in L.A. Just your usual Humanoids books.

I visited Montreal a few years ago and wandered into Marché Du Livre by accident (trying to find Fichtre! but clearly nowhere near ...) Seeing all those gorgeous hardbacks arrayed on the second floor was a shock.

Johane, have you been to Astro Books? That's another name I see occasionally on the interweb and wonder about.

Astro is a nice, but small comic book shop. Used to be a bit dark, last time I went. I can't remember if they have much European material.

Thanks. Hope to get up there again sometime and make a real sweep of the bookstores.

In the meantime I'm enjoying Vampire Loves by Sfar, a nice edition from First Second books. I'll have to hunt down The Rabbi's Cat as well, and Klezmer also looks interesting ... Neil's right, there's too much stuff to get.

have any of you read "Alim le tanneur"? I saw that when I was in Quebec this past week and it looked cool. I didn't get much of a chance to really look at it, so I don't know if it would worth buying online or not. I was amazed at how many comics were in all the bookshops.

Yes! Alim Le Tanneur is excellent! The second volume is out too, though I've preffered the first issue, story wise. I mean, still very good, but the first is my fave.
The art is also quite lovely. A good read.
