This movie deserves its own thread so I can encourage everyone to go and see it. I'm still enjoying it in my head days after I saw it and am dying to see it again.
Almodovar is so playful with his colours, and his toying with soap-opera drama and plot twists, which with other film-makers would come off as shallow, but in his hands is so affecting and moving (probably exactly because he plays it with levity instead of self-conscious emoting). The cast is also just wonderful (although Penelope Cruz was great, and has been getting a lot of praise for it, I was really taken with the actress who played Sole; I thought she was incredible).

As a side note, I thought I'd mention that I saw this on Valentines day when I went out with a couple of also-single friends. We wanted to see different films (I'm scared of the gore in Pan's Labyrinth, even though I'm sure it's a very wonderful film), so we had dinner together, split up for the movies (we figured it went well with our non-Valentines theme anyway!), then got together for coffee afterwards to talk about our respective movies! It was a lot of fun actually, and I'd highly recommend it next time you and a friend want to see different films!

Volver was such a good film. Definitely one of my favs from last year. I went in not knowing what to expect, and I found it a very engaging and touching film.

I don't remember too much gore in Pan's Labyrinth. Only one scene if I can remember correctly, but I could be mistaken. I just remember it not being as gory as people made it out to be.

Volver was a wonderful movie and agree it deserves it's own tread. I really enjoyed watching it.
