Scorsese is Americanising Infernal Affairs.

"The Departed" trailer is up. I don't know if it's the editing of the trailer or what but this does not have the spark of the original.

What a cast though!

It has great possibilities, but the cast is suspect no matter how cool or great they've been or are. I have to watch the original film quick though. Because I have no doubt they will be miles apart, but I have to see them.

Jack Nicholson looks good as always. Dicaprio always looks like a 16 year old and Damon an 18 year old.

How come Andy Lau or Tony Leung didn't have a sex scene?

The Departed finally gets it's official site with CLEANER TRAILER OVER HERE! My fingers are crossed over this one because honestly, Gangs of New York (although Day Lewis ROCKED!) and The Aviator (Which I liked but could and should have been a bit rougher) didn't blow up the box offices as I imagined they would have for obvious reasons... So I just hope this is a good American turn of a proven foreign hit and not some film property rape with big names. I mean they (Leo and Marty) convinced Jack to be in it after De Niro had to drop out, Sadly... Cuss it could have been a big hit and a cool role for him FINALLY. Jack, I think, would have made a solid police superior to balance De Niro's gangster role. [/url]

This trailer is confusing. The original story is so simple and effective, but none of that comes across in the way this trailer was cut. I get the impression that the person putting this together was more enamored by the talent that's in the movie than the actual story. If I didn't see the original, I would just think this was some random gangster movie with a lot of famous actors and a big name director.

Yeah. It doesn't even look like a Scorcese film.

Man, the trailer makes the movie look like a direct translation of the original film, and I have to wonder -- if that was their intention all along, then what was the point if Scorcese isn't going to bring anything new to the table?

The Departed gets a teaser poster

and two TRAILERS, both of which appear to be the same to me.
Odd. If anyone can spot a difference let me know. Who knows? Maybe Apple F'd up.

I seem to be the only person on the planet that thinks Departed was really bad. Not a big fan of Deus Ex Machinas and random junk used fill up time and advance the plot.

I think that this film is barely an echo of Infernal Affairs, but its nice that with that adaptation they still give credit to taking influence from it and at some point adapting it. I have to say that the film was one of the better films I've seen in some time. Scorsese is a guy who really understands the genre, and i think this represents a really strong return to roots but moreover just a really fun film. my question is to those who have seen it and didn't like it, what is the reasoning?

Oh yeah and all the characters were great, Alec Baldwin had me cracking up at times.

I finally saw and I think it may not be as good as the original source material (film), which I have yet to see sadly, but this film was fun and Marti should stick to street level tales and stay away from Oscar ass kissing bait he can't handle and shouldn't have to. The cast made it fun and the film never tries to be the grand master of the genre ruled by Goodfellas (for example) but holds its own in the fun to just be mean department.
