Tekkonkinkreet

Has anyone seen this yet? It was just recently released on Amazon for North America. I just finished watching it and I have yet to form a solid opinion of the story and characters, but the visual style is absolutely stunning.

And the DVD on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Tekkon-Kinkreet-Y ... 014&sr=8-1

(you can also find the original comic there, too)

And, some stills...

wow tons of images here...

i really like Taiyo Matsumoto's art. They recently released a new collection of the manga from which this movie is based, so i'm looking forward to picking this up in addition to seeing this!

it's also worth checking out his other comic series, 'no.5'.
cheers,

Thanks for the reminder about this one. Just added it to my Netflix queue. I think I've read some of the manga -- I know that I've read some of his other series, No. 5. Love the art style, but not sure about the stories themselves.

I had the chance to watch this over the weekend, and I must say it was a pleasant surprise. I have been a fan of Taiyo Matsumoto's work for some time now, but worried about how it might translate to the screen. This movie just oozes with love for the source material. The screenshots really don't do it justice, it is an absolutely gorgeous film, full of energy and details.

The story does go into some dark territory, but it never talks down to the viewer which I appreciated. All in all, one of the better anime movies I've seen in a while.
