First comic, once again untitled.

Post by Pocky » Fri Apr 07, 2006 11:24 am

It's untitled because it has no words!
This is the first comic I ever completed. I've never come close to completing a comic before this, I've entertained many ideas and stories before this of course but never had the patience/skills to do them! So there are probably many issues with panel arrangement and composition, storytelling, and design, all of which I tried to work on in my second comic I posted earlier. I don't think I realized what I needed to work on until I got to the last page, the term "less is more" made a lot more sense once I got to the end of the comic.

This was done as my color theory final last winter, so I only had about 2 1/2 weeks to do it. That forced me to condense the original storyline into a manageable 11 pages. The point of the comic was to show the change of color in light, types of light that create mood, some deeper stuff about personalities and how light and color are symbolic etc etc (okay I forgot). Any comments/critiques would be appreciated.

In the end I got an A+, $100 for the prints, and a spot of honor on the narrative color slide reel. w00t.

Psst hi there

I'm glad to see this, you talked about it so on your journal, so it's nice to see it in actuality. Very beautiful and unique and it flows so well. Great work.

I'm glad you're so willing to improve, but my gosh...

this is your FIRST comic?

Someday I'd like to make a comic this accomplished.

Just beautiful, man.

Thanks for the comments everyone!
The comic was a good learning experience for me, I do enjoy telling stories and I'd probably write a lot more if I weren't so busy painting all the time.

I'm curious are there any parts of the story that aren't clear? I know it's kind of direct, and there are some pages and panels I'd revise a bit (the entire page 2 and some panels in pgs 7 and 9).
I think I'd also clean up the designs of all the characters, I have the initial drawings of the man and the woman (they were done as doodles before I thought of using them for the comic):

I just wish they had come out better in the comic!

Beautiful! The only problem that caught my attention was that some of the panels starting getting a closer together toward the end whereas in the beginning they are evenly spaced.

But I did really like the way that worked on page 5 and page 11 where the panels are intentionally blended.
Congratulations on your first comic! It's really great!
