Hey everybody. It's been a while since I've posted anything comic-related, but I have been busy working on a project that I've hinted at before. It's called MegaWest. My friend Sean Phelan has been writing the story for a couple of years now, and I have been drawing it for almost as long. Well, it's finally in the inking stage, so I think it's time to share what we've done so far and what we'll continue to do:

Image

Right now, pages 1-3 are up on the blog, with more to come. I'm also planning on moving the blog to Wordpress with a Comicpress viewer, but I assume that will take more time and energy to customize than I want to spend right now. Anyway, please feel free to comment/critique on anything. I feel Sean and I have learned a lot over the past year or so working on this, but any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I agree! There's something about it that reminds me of Edward Gorey, for some reason. Keep it up!

Thanks, guys. I've already got 10 pages fully inked, just posting them regularly for now. I've already got all 30 pages of this first issue pencilled, I'm just waiting to finish the inks for the next 20.
Edward Gorey, huh? Interesting. I'm not familiar with his work, but after googling a bit, I can see it a little bit–-I tend to be more detailed in my inking.

Alright, here is page 4:

Loving the B+W art. The "What did he say" page has a nice tension/release pacing to it. Definitely interested to see where the story goes.

This is really good, I’m also very curious to see where this story is going.
Oh by the way, that was a really nice piece you did for 6-commando.

k-9 lives: Thanks man. My friend Sean, who's writing this, will be glad to hear you say that. He wasn't really sure it would work that well (especially the overlay panels of his eyes looking left and right), but I'm glad to hear it does.

Joost: Thanks, man. I can't wait to see yours on Monday. I'm glad to hear you guys are interested to see more.

Because here's more:

Thanks guys.

Haha! He's not so tough anymore with the milk mustache.
I have to admit it took me some time to see it being in black and white and all, but I read somewhere that you plan on coloring this and then that "milkstache" will be quite noticeable.

What is that black mound on the counter in panel 3?

Joost: Yeah, I thought that too. Either in grayscale or color, it should be more apparent.

k-9: That mound is supposed to be the condensation from the milk bottle as he yoinked it away from the table. I'll probably crosshatch that when I go to color it, or just make it slightly darker than the color of the table.

Alright, page 8:

Thanks for reading, guys!

Haha, in the picture above this cowboy looks a lot like captain Haddock from Tintin. Panel 4 on page 8 looks really good by the way.

Joost: Heh. I've never really read Tintin, but I googled Capt. Haddock, and I can see the similarity. haha. Interesting. Oh, and thanks for the comment about the big panel. So far, it's been one of my favorites. Still trying to get spotting blacks down, so I'm happy with it.

By the way, in this week's page, we learn that guy's name:
