beautiful illustration, I got the story in the end but found the flow a little hard to follow.

That's really charming. The sort of thing I'd show my wee girl when she's a bit bigger. Very nice and quite a distinctive style.

Hey, you are elio from LJ! I know you.

The reason that people have trouble with your style is very, very difficult to articulate, but I know what it is. Let me see if I can explain...

because of the nature of your work (abstracted figures, isolated panels that strongly refer to themselves, dense color palettes), it does not read precisely sequentially. It is more like the work of R. Crumb or a lot of painted comics, where you do not so much read the images as words in a sentence, but instead get caught inside each image. It's the exact opposite of Chris Ware or the Marvel House Style. It feels more like a slide-show or one painting after another than frames in a film.

I hope this makes some kind of sense. This is no barrier to commercial success at all, obviously, and your style is extremely charming. But when I read it I don't respond to the story, and it seems as though that's what you're going for here.

More "traditional" composition could really help you here.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Geoff - I'll be the first to admit the comic I posted is a bit diffacult to follow, I completely understand. The layout is unconventional (and ridiculous).
This was just more of an "experiment illustration". 8)
