This is a reinterpretation of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale "The Emperor's New Clothes," completed as a final project for a cartooning class at CSU Fullerton. Final is completed in ink and watercolor.

I'm really happy with how this turned out for the most part. Really, all I'm disappointed in is the color, but I've little experience with both color in general as well as watercolors. I was going for a Calvin & Hobbes coloring style; with all that in mind I'm mostly pleased with the results. Thankfully I scanned the inks so I could recolor digitally later on if I wanted.

I also went for a Jim Lee style of panel layout, as well as a Chris Ware style... well, you'll see when you get to page 4.

Let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!

I really like the loose linework, it looks great.
The naked superhero is something I've been playing with a bit recently (here), it is such a great image.

Batman's pretty hirsute though, huh? I kind of imagine him/Bruce Wayne as someone who would definitely be waxing.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody!

Andrew -

"He floats above you, he floats below you" and "pounces on" are both totally awesome.

I think that Bruce Wayne's hirsute-ness is open to interpretation. He's definitely a very classy, with the time, 21st century male. However, he's clearly very rugged, manly, and could care less because there are more important things. It's a hotly contested issue that I think requires further research!

thanks woody,
I guess I can imagine this being more like a Michael Keaton or a George Clooney rather than a Christian Bale.
Looking over the strip again, I am laughing at that first panel with the Chris Ware bit. Batman's whole pose and expression is fantastic.

Thanks, all.

tpiro - I hadn't considered that, but perhaps there is something to be said for more superheroes fighting crime in their birthday suits. You never know what the future holds! :P
