Schoolin'

Post by Rocky » Mon Aug 15, 2005 1:29 pm

I was wondering what kind of education everyone here is either recieving, recieved, or planning to recieve? Has anyone here pursued a specific art degree then ended up doing something else with it? (like you studied ceramics and you ended up becoming an illustrator or you studied business and ended up glass blowing)

I'm curious (-:

I got a BFA in illustration. And hopefully soon I will get a job with that as a key factor of working.

I have a degree in Film Studies from UCSB. Everything I learned about cartooning and drawing has been mostly self-taught, but I pick up a lot from my friends...

I quit school after one year at college.
No degree, a small useless "professionnal diploma".
Only one year in art school (usually it's five years long).

On year of Graphic Design at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada.
The moment they announced a brand new animation course in the same college, I just jumped to that program.
We were the guinea pigs that year!

Comics is self taught and still learning...

University of Lapland, Faculty of Arts, majoring in graphic design, hoping to get my thesis ready in 2006 and then getting my Master of Art degree. Spent a year abroad in Florence, Italy, studying graphic design there aswell.

But yeah, I agree with Kazu. The most thing I've learned has been self-taught. Friends and professors can basically only motivate us, not teach. I'll never be a designer though, my heart belongs to illustrating and storytelling.

BFA in Illustration at Brigham Young University - Idaho. I was the only one there doing comics... I guess it turned out okay.

Hey I forgot to share me... (-: I'm going into industrial design at RISD. I love it so much. I really want to keep illustrating even though my field is more geared towards 3 Dimensional stuff, but judging from the different backgrounds a lot of people come from, an education is all in what you make of it!

I got a BFA in Sequential Art at the Savannah College of Art and Design. I just graduated in the spring, and don't have a "real job" yet...I'm working on several comics projects though, and building my illustration portfolio.
