Do I need the full version of Photoshop, or can I get by with Photoshop Elements?

thanks, wish me luck!

I'd say: elements will do just fine. Up until just recently I was running an old PS Elements 2.0 and I pretty much never felt that I was held back by its limitations. Now I've been using PS Elements 6 (mac) for a while, if you're using Windows I think there's an even newer version available. And it's great! Extremely user friendly, even more than the standard PS. For coloring and painting and such, not only would I say Elements is enough, I would recommend it.

I've also heard very good things about Sai here: http://www.systemax.jp/en/sai/

And it's free.
