I know you said you were inspired by Gagne's work, but I feel like these are a bit too similar. Yes when you look closely there are differences, it's heavily influenced to the point where I'd be worred somone would say you might be ripping off his work. I don't mean to open a can or worms or start a...

I think most people posting art (myself included) can assume that a piece is not that great if people don't post anything about it. Am I right in assuming this? This is the very reason I made this thread! (I'm not about to go into it all over again, it's all there in previous posts. No offense, but...

great article, I always wondered what Waterson was up to these days... hard to believe it's been 10 years since the strip ended. news paper comics have been on a steady decline over the past few decades, and Calvin and Hobbes was one of the last great strips. it was ashame, but as they say all good ...

I agree, writing crits is hard, sometimes harder than making work. but through crits you not only help others understand thier work I think you help yourself. Well as for that big nothing... it all depends on the situation I suppose. This is way waaaay off topic but it seems in western philosophy no...

nofret, in reponse to the double edged sword comment. If i have time or if the work is interisting and asks for crits I will attempt to give a crit, especially in negledted threads where there isn't a bunch of "it looks good" posts. I was simply stating I don't think it's necessary to make such comm...

I don't think there is a crit problem, it's more or less just an observation on the whole. I was just curious of how other felt about crits etc. And I wasn't saying there is no crits, because there are a lot, but there's also a lot of the "it looks good" comments. Which I guess I've learned can work...

The issue of people having little no time to post crits is perfectly understandable. In my honest opinion though if I have nothing to say other than I think it looks good or whatever I won't bother posting. And I'm not saying the forum has to change but enforcing more crits or anything like that. I ...

About giving crits I don't think you have to be the best in order to make you worthy to give a good critique. I mean most movie critics probably have never made a movie in thier life but they criticize them for a living! Though in some respect being an expert on a specific medium may lend itself in ...

A comment on comments and crits

Lemme just start by saying the illustration and comic forums are excellent, I probably browse them atleast every other day. But I've noticed a lot of the really nice work that's being posted recieves a lot of comments with the gist of, "it looks great." Not to say this is bad or that I haven't seen ...

this sketch has some interisting qualities, i like the face and hands, and the fact they're made more noticble by the ambiguity of the body. But i think maybe the broken up body might be a little too much, maybe an outline or shadow to pull it all togather. it almost looks like the right hand is of ...

Damn, that's one hell of a close game! I'm not a huge baseball fan but I'll root for the yankees if anyone. And speaing of team rivalry, honestly I've never seen stronger animosity between yankee and redsox fans. Better not be caught with a redsox hat on in NY, haha. But I got no TV here, and it's p...

the eyes, and shape of the head give the character a very child like quality but the body looks too old for the head. That's my preception anyway

i like that the ouline isn't solid black since it has such a pastel color palette. it's a subtle but good quality.
