The preview for the latest volume of Flight is online: http://www.flightcomics.com/flight7preview/

I think the artists did a fantastic job with this volume.

Re: Edits

Sure. I always get notes for changes and edits, but at least in the case of Scholastic, I have agreed with most of their criticism and made the changes. For the (maybe) 10% of the time I don't agree, I just stick to what I originally intended, and they're usually fine with that. The notes I get back...

Re: Copper

I do plan to work on a LOT more Copper. Here's the situation: If I do it as a webcomic, then compiling it as a book will take much longer (the new one took 7 years), and my publisher doesn't like that the material is available on the web. While we worked on the book, the webcomic was a point of cont...

Re: Expensive displays: R they really needed for Illustration?

Kostas, I actually still use the tablet about 1/4 of the time I work digitally. While I still prefer to paint straight to digital with a tablet, the Cintiq's ability to speed up our graphic novel coloring process by more than double the speed is really hard to overlook. It also allows me to work for...

Re: Discuss Amulet?

Trellis and Luger are not directly influenced by Avatar: The Last Airbender, but their characters do share similarities to Zuko and Zhao.

Leon's hat was definitely inspired by Luffy's in One Piece. It was a way to indicate that the grand adventure was really about to begin. :)

Re: Discuss Amulet?

Haha. The design of the dog is actually based on a doll I actually had as a kid. Although he did not have an eye spot, so that must be a Fred reference.

Re: What inking pen to use? Nib pens?

I use crow quills, but Amulet is done with a pencil. When you scan clean pencil lines into Photoshop and increase the contrast through the level adjust, you can mimic a really thin dry brush. I find that it makes for more fluid lines, and really helps the action scenes.

Re: Discuss Amulet?

Hello! Well, if you look very carefully, there are quite a few references in the details but not in the overall designs. I'd love to see if people can point them out. :D

Re: Expensive displays: R they really needed for Illustration?

Before using Wacom Cintiqs (we have three of them now. I love them!), where the color is just right, I used to use Dell Ultrasharp monitors, where the colors (especially contrast) are pretty far off the mark. To remedy this, I used a dual monitor setup, where I had an old NEC CRT monitor next to my ...

Re: Which Cintiq?

Get the bigger one, Michael. The people I know who have the smaller one seem pretty underwhelmed with it. I think once Wacom can make it more portable (no crazy output box with its myriad of cords), it might be worth owning. For portability, though, I find the tablet to be a much better option for n...
