It often seems to me that the right/center/left spectrum is itself kind of meaningless and in need of serious deconstruction. It seems to help the hegemony maintain a status quo in the supposed "center" though. One of my least favorite aspects of this is in journalism, where they air a republican s...

Couldn't agree more. Which is why I'm voting for John Kerry.

I make sure to mention Cheney often because he's so much worse than the President himself. I don't ever believe a word that comes out of his mouth, and I have a feeling that he doesn't either. Did you see the videoclip of him being interviewed last year (or maybe longer ago now) about the "imminent...

Saying Bush cut education is a lie. Kerry said it, but that doesn't make it true. But I think it is safe to say that "no child left behind" is really screwed up and underfunded. My position may be biased by the fact that my wife, aunt, uncle, and best friend are all teachers, and I used to work in ...

I have personal issues with Kerry...I think the guy is a piece of shit. He always talks about his great war record, and such...but...why doesn't he talk about how he turned into a male version of Jane Fonda after he got out of the war. The Viet Cong used to play his anti-war speaches to POW's still...

Since then, I went from looking for the "lesser of two evils" to being convinced that Kerry is a good candidate for President. I had a similar experience. I've been convinced it's vital to the future of the world to get Bush out of office, but Kerry caught my eye before I even knew he was running. ...

Yeah, that is a cool link. A bit of perspective is always good. Here's a scary one -- a history teacher I know at a high school in a pretty ritzy district here in AZ asked what the students thought was the average household income for people in the U.S. They finally arrived at $150,000 per year, but...

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Now there's a sentiment I can get behind. Even if Voltaire never actually said it, it certainly sums up much of his statements about freedom and liberty. Actually, I didn't want this to turn into a censorship debate...

Re: confused

What I meant, was that this shouldn't be considerd wrongful censorship. Wrongful censorship is when something that needs to be told is being squashed, kept secret. Captain America isn't telling something that needs to be told, and if he is then it's not in an effective way. That is all I was trying...

And, considering most people don't even understand the, breadth of our current conflict. Okay, so I lived in Iran when I was a kid, and I totally agree that most people don't understand the nature of the conflict. The "breadth" of what's going on far predates our current conflict, and I think the f...
