Wow, it's not too often I get this excited about a comics project (other than Flight I mean). It looks to have some VERY impressive art and stories. I'm SO going to submit to this!

Yeah, I think the biggest thing for me is that the person I'm with can support and understand what I do and won't die of boredom if I talk about it. I guess in the past I've thought that the key was to be with some girl who shared my same passions or interests. But after meeting this girl I'm curren...

Sketchbook, Copy Paper or Both?

Just curious to see what most people here like to draw in/on :D I used to be exclusively a copy paper guy because if you mess up you can just throw it away, and for some unknown reason I could always draw easier on copy paper. Maybe it's the surface or something, I dunno. Recently though I'm turning...

Random Art/Relationship Question

So I have a totally random question here regarding relationships... As comic artists, do you feel it's important that your significant other (girlfriend/wife) be a fellow artist or creative person and share that passion with you in some way? Or is it enough for you just to know that they simply tole...

That is the COOLEST thing I've seen in a long time. I'm in a similar predicament and this is really going to help me out!

Thanks!

Depressed By My Local Comics Store

What's wrong with me?!! I very occasionally visit the comic store these days and when I do, it's a bit of a let down. Comics still seem preoccupied with superheroes and I don't see too much else. I always leave feeling like there isn't really anything that interests me story or art wise. Now online,...

Inking with...Pencils?

Hi, Anyone here skipping the inking phase altogether and simply doing finished "inks" with pencil instead? I ask because my art tends to look more lively when not inked and I plan on scanning in and manipulating it in Photoshop. I've noticed a few comics in flight and elsewhere that were not inked a...

Paper Size for Illustrating Comics

So what paper size are you all using to draw your comics on? I'm currently using 11X17 but I'm finding it a difficult size for scanning purposes. I'm just curious if going with a different size would burn any bridges when it comes time to find a publisher for my book?

Well, here's a real brief overview... "Classicists" focus on craftsmanship, excellence and mastery over the art of comics. "Animists" focus on characters, stories and effective storytelling through comics as a storytelling medium. "Formalists" focus on the form of comics itself, figuring out what th...

So...what's your TRIBE?

So just curious.... For those of you who have read Making Comics by Scott McCloud, what "tribe" (underlying philosophy about comics) do you think you fall under? Classicists, Animists, Formalists, or Iconoclasts? Myself, I'm mostly an "Animist" and a bit of a "Classicist". For me stories, storytelli...

For me it's more of a balancing act. I think my best work comes totally from the heart initally. As I'm trying to figure a story out, I'll try to have each scene based on a mental image that has a strong emotional connection to me. It has to resonate with me on sort of an intuitive level. This lets ...
