I think there are different kinds of "truth". Sure, there's truth in terms of believability, and a story may indeed need to be grounded in a certain amount of this. But I think the more important truth is, as Neil said, something human, which is harder to explain or quantify, but which you recognize...

WOOOW! This is so amazing. When the top of it appeared on my screen I didn't expect to keep finding more to the image as I scrolled down - I love that verticality! Combined with the guy's hair, it feels like you're being sucked upwards. The little bit of green in the bottom and leaves adds just a ti...

This is gorgeous! And communicates really well - I was pretty much thinking something along the lines of the quote before I even read it (though of course not in those exact words, but you know what I mean - it works really well!)

hair girls (and telephone wires)

I don't think I've posted these here - some small paintings that I like to work on when I need a break from the more intense art for school - because it's relaxing to do things just for the sake of visual pleasure sometimes ^^ http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v131/geckochan/hair2s.jpg http://img.ph...

I'm sorry I can't give you any feedback on the horses, since I know nothing about horses. But I love the guy! He's awesome - and the pic is very dynamic. I'm sure she'll love it!

Very charming, Blom! I enjoy the feathery look to the leaves, and the washing line!
All the best in all your work, it all sounds very worthwhile! (Even though I'll still see you over at Parable ^_^)

That is remarkable. It's so inventive and interesting and well-rendered! I particularly like the blank white face and hand in the figure on the left.

I'm sure they'd be great if they did though! lol I did actually read your title the same way and went "huh, those first two Murakami ones I've never heard of!" Norwegian Wood is the only one of his I've read so far, mostly because I'd been trying to find a copy of Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End ...

Kazu - I was reading through the whole thread going "seriously, *nobody* else was expecting a helicopter?" until I got to yours ^^

Pascal - I love your elephants!
Muffin - I love his eyes! And the muppet-like width of his mouth
Mike - that is insanely cute.

Yup, it's on canvas, and she's holding a hamburger (hamburgers and coffee representing some global corporations you may have heard of... )

I think it's interesting that spider-girl is a recurring character ^^ I wonder what her other friends look like!
And I also think the one about honesty is really well done - especially that page with her yelling "I feel terrible!" - not preachy at all, very relatable ^_^

Gold-frame portraits

A couple of small (like 3" X 4") pics done for my fourth-year body of work at school, which is revolving around dissolving/nebulous/multiple cultural identities. These ones re: personal experience vs. ethnic heritage / post-colonialism (as most of the more autobio pieces are, myself being South Afri...
