But if I think about it, I feel kind of sad that I or other people do draw meaningful experiences from stories which are in fact mostly artificiality. That these contrived stories are better at moving us than our own sense of reality. Or maybe I just live a dull life; it'd be so much better as a be...

I would do it based on what works best for your comic. This. I have a fondness for B+W books, and not only are they cheaper to make but also cheaper to buy, but my next book will be colour because it kind of needs to be in colour. Two years ago I started brushing up on my colouring in anticipation ...

E-paper. I've heard of this! It is exciting and at the same time a little scary (my love of dead tree books is deeply ingrained). It would, at an absolute minimum, be the perfect way to replace newspapers. Why would anyone buy a paper newspaper when they could just download the news into a format th...

The amazing part I find is that even with all this talk about "change" and "a new direction" and all that, America is still going to somehow wind up with a crappy President. I may have to move to Canada, or something. Oh don't count on us to produce any inspiring leaders any time soon. You should s...

I agree that print will be around for a while yet. A lot of people seem to actively avoid reading comics on the internet. Personally, I'm very pessimistic about the distant future of sellable entertainment in general. We're a long ways away from eliminating print, but as more people become technolog...

Comics (possible futures of)

I often find myself thinking about what the future of comics might be. Or could be, or ought to be. Obviously the web is important, but what is the best way to have it work with print? Are you one of those who believes the web will eventually replace print? The anthology format, as demonstrated by F...

I have reservations about posting my politics on the internet, but seeing as I'm a foreigner, I don't get to vote anyways. I will say this, though... Many universal health care systems outside the US are loved by their people, but their goverments are looking to make their systems more like ours sim...

Heh. I just saw Amulet for sale in the book section of my local supermarket. This has got to be a good thing for comics in general and kids' comics in particular. How many comics, how many books have such a wide distribution? Bone needed some company and now it's got it!

Joey's book is awesome and should be read by everyone. :)

As for slightly Flight-like online comics that are neither Japanese style nor superheroes, I might also recommend Gunnerkrigg Court, Between Two Worlds, and Minus.

Absolutely! Japanese comics and novels have the same tendency and I love it. When I write I find myself relying more and more on the Western model (three acts, building steadily to a climax and then easing off, every event key to character or plot development) if only because it's a method I underst...

I just finished reading the first book. It's good stuff! I feel like an idiot. I've been drawing all the soldiers with their shield in the wrong hand. D'oh! Was everyone too polite to say anything, or did you really not notice? Really? Because I sure didn't notice. Which is good, because I've been k...

Very interesting. I wouldn't presume to know which strategy is better, as I'm not an animator and enjoy movies from both companies (though I would guess that Pixar movies have more personal control on a given project than straight Disney, where movies often seem to have been written by committee).
