I kind of winced when I saw this, because the turbans, beards, eyebrows, etc. look pretty demeaning, aside from the poor military joke, which just fades into the background. The main joke seems to be "arabs are stupid and ugly," which I didn't like. I don't think you intended to be racist... I can s...

I think the biggest problem is that you've got two different horizons in the perspective! And neither are at eye level, so that's messing things up quite a bit. It shouldn't be hard to fix.

As a mostly non practicing hindu, I'm cool with it too! This is my favorite of yours so far, in fact. Indian (and Japanese, etc.) culture bastardization peeves me as well, but I dunno, I think there's something funny and embracing about your little drawing. I feel like you're giving Hindu mythology ...

It's really perfect that Bill Murray provides Garfield's voice... I'm probably the only one to notice this, but the guy who did Garfield's voice in the saturday morning cartoon also did the voice of Bill Murray's character in "Ghostbusters" for that cartoon. Or at least it sounded that way when i wa...

Kean, did you get "Seacaucus" by The Wrens? I wasn't sure if you already had "The Meadowlands." I haven't been able to find "Seacaucus," I suppose because it's been out of print for a while. :? I'v been listening to Death Cab and Elliott Smith too... Also American Football, Red House Painters, The D...

Another recommendation on this subject would be the Isao Takahata-directed animated film, Grave of the Fireflies, which was on a double-bill with My Neighbor Totoro(!) when it was released. That's a really heartbreaking film, all the more so because it's completely unsentimental. The direction is a...

Thanks Dik... I was pretty sure that scene was either much better detailed in the book, or not there at all, because it was such a cinematic ending. The fade to white was nice...

"Lost at Sea" by Bryan Lee O'Malley

http://www.icomics.com/images/121103_lostatsea01.jpg This is a new graphic novel out from Oni Press--an elliptically told story about a girl who believes she has no soul, on a road trip. Every page is really enjoyable to read, rendered with a simple cartoonish fluidity that deceptively includes won...

For those of you with knowledge of the books--where exactly are Frodo, Bilbo, and the others going at the end? I know it doesn't really matter, but I was just wondering if there was more detail in the original text. Actually, my guess is that the scene is not in the book.

The movie has an appealing blend of style.. The CGI is looking not so good though; it's probably just unfinished. That's how it usually is with these teaser trailers. I like the fact that they did the film in black and white, then colorized it in post. Ah, cool. They do this a lot with music videos....

In regard to 7), Derek has started previewing his Flight story at http://www.smallstoriesonline.com. I think this is the first publicly available look at the book.
