New Graphix Titles
Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 by KazuScholastic’s Graphix imprint has released three graphic novels by Flight artists in Spring 2010: Raina Telgemeier‘s Smile, Jake Parker‘s Missile Mouse #1: The Star Crusher, and a collection of my Copper comics. Although I’m a little biased here, I do think it’s a really strong crop of new books for Scholastic. And the print production on these books turned out beautifully. Please pick up a copy of the books if you get a chance!

Flight 5 Nominated for a Harvey Award
Wednesday, July 1st, 2009 by KazuFlight 5 has been nominated for a Harvey Award! Congrats to all the artists who contributed to the project. Our good friends Becky Cloonan, Vasilis Lolos, Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon have a book nominated in the same category with Pixu. It’s a great book! I wish we didn’t have to compete!
To vote for Flight 5, please visit this link.

Here’s a photo of the new Flight 6 banner for Comic-Con. We’ll be located at a new spot this year: Booth #2329, right in the middle of the bigger comics publishers. Little old us, hangin’ with the big boys, and all we have is a single book series! This should be interesting. I’ll also have plenty of copies of Amulet on hand, as well as previews for Amulet 2. I hope to see you there!
Scott Campbell’s Home Slice
Saturday, March 7th, 2009 by KazuI just got back from viewing what I feel is my favorite show amongst the many that Nucleus has had over the years. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, I highly recommend you check out Scott Campbell‘s amazing work on display at Gallery Nucleus. The opening reception is tonight, and Scott will there, so be sure to drop by and say hello. He is one of the best dudes. I’ll be hanging out at the gallery for a short while as well.
Flight 6 Cover
Thursday, March 5th, 2009 by KazuHere’s the cover image for Flight 6, slightly altered to better fit this desktop image version. We are getting near completion on the book, and I should be finished with my Daisy Kutter story at the beginning of next week. Here’s a two-page preview of the Daisy comic.
Liquid City
Friday, September 12th, 2008 by KazuSonny Liew has been consistently creating some of the best comics in the industry, and his Flight stories always manage to be among my favorites every time he contributes. Now Sonny has put together an anthology featuring work by his fellow artists in Southeast Asia. This looks like a really promising new collection, and with Sonny at the helm, I anticipate it will be a quality book.
Here’s a link to a Newsarama interview with Sonny, and click here to check out a preview of the book.
Jeff Smith on PBS NewsHour
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 by Kazu
I’m a little late on the game with this one, but Jeff was recently featured on NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS. In it, they highlight the success of Bone and talk about the recent gallery show featuring Jeff’s work, alongside works by other cartoon greats (Seger, Kelly, Schulz, Herrimann). Check out the video and audio streams here. They also posted a follow-up podcast here.
The Great Great Grand Show
Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 by KazuThis Saturday, Gallery Nucleus will be hosting the opening reception of The Great Great Grand Show, featuring a bunch of artwork from Flight artists Scott Campbell, Graham Annable, Jon Klassen, and Israel Sanchez. The pieces I’ve seen so far are hilarious, and beautiful. This is going to be one of the best shows this year, so be sure not to miss it. The opening reception begins on Saturday at 7pm to 11pm. The artists will be at the show, along with quite a few other Flight folks, so drop by and say hello!
Flight 5 Preview
Monday, July 21st, 2008 by KazuHere’s a preview of what you’ll find in Flight 5. The book comes out this week, and we’ll have 600 copies on hand at the Comic-Con. You can also pre-order the book on Amazon if you’re too far from a comic book retailer. Be sure to drop by the booth (#1228) and say hello to the Flight artists, most of whom will be signing all week. We’ll again be joined by Gallery Nucleus and Out of Picture, so you’ll be sure to find plenty of cool new stuff to pick up, like the beautiful Out of Picture 2!
Flight 5 at Newsarama
Saturday, July 5th, 2008 by KazuI just received several copies of Flight 5 in the mail, and the book looks and reads great. Amy and I both think it’s the strongest volume of the series so far, with the artists really maturing as storytellers. If you liked Flight Volume 3, then you’ll probably really enjoy Flight Volume 5, as it is essentially a stronger version of that book.
I’m noticing a pattern, where the even numbered volumes have a softer, more introspective tone, while the odd volumes have more of a sense of adventure and discovery. Makes me wonder what Flight 6 will bring to the table.
Newsarama has posted an interview with me about the book, and they will be posting previews of the material over the course of a few days, so be sure to check in over there. Here are previews featuring the works of Michel Gagné and Paul Rivoche.
Flight 4 Nominated for Harvey Award
Friday, June 20th, 2008 by Kazu
Flight 4 has been nominated for a 2008 Harvey Award. Last year, Flight 3 won in the Best Anthology category. The award is named after the great Harvey Kurtzman (pictured above), creator of MAD Magazine, and MAD was one of the biggest inspirations in creating Flight. Congrats also to our friends Vasilis Lolos, Gabriel Ba, Mike Krahulik, Jerry Holkins, and Bryan Lee O’Malley for their nominations!
