Sorcerers & Secretaries

Amy Kim Ganter‘s debut graphic novel, Sorcerers & Secretaries, is now shipping at Amazon. The book should also be at your local retailers. Now I may be biased, but a great book is a great book, and when people read this they’ll be hooked. It is really, really good. More pictures here.

She’s From Away

Thursday, January 26th, 2006 by

The website for Hope Larson‘s latest comic, She’s From Away, has just gone live. An autobiographical comic strip documenting her acclimation to life in the Maritimes, the strip will update every Thursday. I’m not saying this lightly when I say that this is her best work yet.

Begin reading She’s From Away here.

Daisy Kutter: The Last Train

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006 by

Kazu’s Daisy Kutter: The Last Train has been selected by the American Library Association as one of the “Best Books for Young Adults” for 2006! Congratulations are in order, especially considering that he shares the list with the likes of J. K. Rowling and Neil Gaiman, which is very good company indeed.

Find out more about The Last Train and preview some pages from the book here.

Today marks the fourth anniversary of The Creatures in my Head! Four years is certainly a long time to be drawing monsters on the internet, so head on over and show Andy some love!

Sam & Max return!

Friday, January 20th, 2006 by

Everyone’s favourite canine and hyperkinetic rabbity thing have returned to comics, and they’re now being serialized on the web! I don’t particularly agree with the format (call me old-fashioned, but I don’t like having to move the mouse over each image to read the dialogue), but hey, I’ll take what I can get. It’s presumably also a clever cross-promotion for the forthcoming Sam & Max video game that’s being put out by Telltale Games. I have to admit, I still have fond memories of the original Lucasarts game from my youth.

Start reading Sam & Max here.

Meow, Baby!

Thursday, January 19th, 2006 by

There’s a preview of Jason’s new comic, Meow, Baby! over on The Comics Reporter right now. It might be a bit of an understatement to say that some of us here are huge fans of Jason’s work. Meow, Baby! is being published by Fantagraphic Books, and it should be available in comic stores this week.

Picking up where the excellent Project: Superior left off, AdHouse Books is launching a new comic series, Superior Showcase. This first issue features a cover by Hope Larson and original superhero stories by Nick Bertozzi, Mike Dawson and Dean Trippe! This comic should be available in all fine comic stores in your very near future.

The Comic Book

Be sure to check out the February issue of Nickelodeon Magazine’s The Comic Book at pretty much all news and checkstands. It features a spiffy cover by Vera Brosgol! The Comic Book has consistently been one of the best and most readily accessible forums for good cartoon work over the past few years. Gotta hand it to Dave Roman, Chris Duffy, and crew for doing a great job.

Holy meme, Batgirl!

Friday, January 13th, 2006 by

Wow. In the span of 24 hours, a full-blown Batgirl meme has exploded on Livejournal. Cartoonists of all stripes and colors have been busy drawin’ all sorts of Batgirls. It all started with Andi Watson showing off some original character designs for an aborted Batgirl project, and then it was quickly picked up by Dean Trippe and Jamie Dee Galey. Since then, it’s spread out to include other artists like Joel Carroll, Clio Chiang, Jen Wang, Vera Brosgol, Andy Runton, Dave Roman, Bryan Lee O’Malley, and many many more.

Track the entire meme and all its participants here.

Monster Island

Thursday, January 12th, 2006 by

David Wellington is now offering preorders on the print edition of his zombie novel Monster Island, which was serialized on the web a couple of years ago. Of course, it’s also worth mentioning that Flight alumni Joel Carroll has provided several illustrations to the exclusive Monster Island chapbook that’s only available to people who pre-order the book now.

Head on over here to find out how you can get more of your zombie fix!
